Sheehan, Pages propel Dodgers to sole possession 1st in NL West

Emmet Sheehan produced a career-high-tying 10 strikeouts, while Andy Pages hit homers twice as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.
It was a complete domination from the LA Dodgers, who clinched the game 7-0 to regain sole possession of first in the NL West.
San Diego dropped a game behind the Dodgers with a 9-6 loss at Seattle last weekend.
Emmet Sheehan (5-2) delivered the longest outing of his career, giving up just two hits — a double to former Dodger Gavin Lux in the second inning and a single to Austin Hays in the seventh — while walking one.
On the other hand, Pages provided the spark at the plate. He homered into the Dodgers’ bullpen in the third off Hunter Greene (5-4), then added another blast in the fifth after a Michael Conforto double to make it 3-0.
Torrens helps Mets comeback win against Phillies
The Dodgers broke the game open in the sixth when Freddie Freeman doubled and Will Smith walked.
Pages reached on a fielding error by Elly De La Cruz, and Hays compounded the mistake with a wild throw, allowing both Freeman and Smith to score for a 5-0 lead.
Mookie Betts tacked on a solo homer in the seventh, and Pages’ sacrifice fly later brought in the final run of a 7-0 Dodgers win.
The key moment in the game came when Dodgers left fielder Conforto and right fielder Teoscar Hernández took away four extra base hits with terrific defense.
Conforto caught Spencer Steer’s fly at the top of the wall and Hernández also went to the wall to rob Ke’Bryan Hayes in the second. Hernández snared Jose Trevino’s liner in the webbing of his glove on a one-handed grab with his back to the plate in the third. He ran into the scoreboard chasing down Matt McLain’s fly in the fifth.

India has released additional water into the Sutlej River, causing a flood alert in Punjab due to the rise of water, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
According to details, India issued a warning last night regarding the release of water from the Madhopur Dam and released additional water into the River Sutlej.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan stated it is closely monitoring the situation.
A spokesperson reported that heavy rainfall is expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the floodwaters released by India into the River Ravi have entered Pakistani territory, leading to a sudden rise in water levels at the Jassar point.
In Narowal, 56 people working in fields near the Ravi River were successfully rescued.
A moderate-level flood is currently passing through Jassar, and the floodwaters are expected to reach Shahdara today.
Furthermore, India has released more water into the Sutlej River. A high-level flood has already been reported at the Ganda Singh Wala point. In areas such as Uch Sharif, Arifwala, and Pakpattan, residential homes and hundreds of acres of farmland are now submerged.

Is AJ Style getting last title run in WWE?

As the Clash in Paris is fast approaching, fans expect that veteran wrestler AJ Styles might be getting a long-awaited last title run in the WWE.
AJ, 48, is expected to hang up his boots from in-ring competition probably next year, when his current contract with WWE expires.
He has been an iconic performer and one of the most loved figures among fans in the industry.
AJ Style is booked to face Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio at the pay-per-view on Saturday. There is a high possibility that AJ would dethrone Mysterio for the title.
John Cena to headline new WWE event
If this happened, this could potentially lead to a dream match for the one last time against John Cena, who is retiring at the end of the year.
AJ and Cena rivalry is one of the best in the WWE, as both stars share a great in-ring chemistry and complement each other with their microphone skills.
Moreover, Europe has always responded passionately to WWE’s overseas showcases, and pairing an emotional title win with this unique venue could make for an unforgettable moment. For both longtime followers and casual fans, it would underscore the significance of both the match and the setting.
A final championship reign has a way of cementing legacies. Granting AJ Styles a fleeting return to gold wouldn’t diminish the next generation—they’re still rising—but would provide the perfect narrative closure. After all, memorable careers deserve memorable exits.

Canada measles cases pass 4,500, highest count in Americas

Canada’s measles case count has passed 4,500, with the western province of Alberta — which has about five million people — recording more cases this year than the United States, figures updated Thursday showed.
World Health Organization data released this month show Canada accounts for about half of all the confirmed measles cases across the Americas region this year.
Canada officially eradicated measles in 1998, but the virus has stormed back, particularly among unvaccinated members of certain Mennonite Christian communities.
The most populous province of Ontario, which has about 16 million people, has recorded 2,366 cases, according to federal government data updated this week, which put the national case count at 4,638.
Alberta’s government, which releases its weekly figures on Thursdays, said it had registered 1,790 cases, making it the hardest-hit area per capita.
The United States, confronting its worst measles epidemic in 30 years, has confirmed 1,375 cases, the Centers for Disease Control said this week.
The Pan American Health Organization, WHO’s regional office, said this month that 71 percent of confirmed cases occurred in unvaccinated people, with an additional 18 percent among people whose vaccination status was not known.
Canadian experts have pointed to several factors driving the outbreak, including the proliferation of vaccine misinformation.
Read more: Second US child dies of measles, almost 650 ill: officials
Canadian physicians have criticized US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has spent decades spreading false information about vaccines.
But the bulk of the Canadian epidemic has occurred among Anabaptist Christian communities — of whom Mennonites are one — where vaccine hesitancy is historic.
The beginning of the outbreak has been linked to a Mennonite wedding in the eastern province of New Brunswick.
Outside of Ontario and Alberta, which have larger Mennonite communities, cases have been isolated, with British Columbia the third-hardest hit province with 190 cases.
The only suspected measles-related death in Canada during the 2025 outbreak was that of a newborn baby whose mother was unvaccinated, but officials noted the baby was born pre-term and had other medical conditions.

Chief Justice bars PTI founder’s sisters from speaking during proceedings

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s bail petitions until 10:30 am tomorrow after the special prosecutor, falls ill, ARY News reported.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi heard the case. During proceedings, Imran Khan’s counsel Salman Safdar argued that the case had already seen repeated delays in the High Court, with 16 hearings and eight prosecutors being replaced.
He said that the prosecution had filed numerous adjournment requests which caused unnecessary prolongation.
Safdar requested that at least arguments from the defense be heard, but the Chief Justice remarked that the court would first hear the prosecution’s position. “The prosecution must justify how the High Court ruling can be sustained,” the Chief Justice observed.
The Supreme Court also rejected a plea seeking permission for Imran Khan’s sisters to speak in court. “Only lawyers may present arguments; no family member can address the bench,” the Chief Justice stated.
Counsel Salman Safdar maintained that Imran Khan had already been denied bail by the Lahore High Court in November last year, and that the case remained pending for six months before any progress was made.
He added that the defense had grown weary of repeated delays.
“We assure you, no long adjournments will be granted,” the Chief Justice responded, reiterating that the matter would be taken up again tomorrow.
This hearing marks another development in the ongoing legal challenges faced by Imran Khan, as the PTI founder continues to contest multiple cases in the courts.

The court directed the prosecution department to prepare on legal questions and adjourned the matter until 19 August.
Imran Khan’s legal team and the opposing lawyers were instructed to assist the court on the identified legal issues.
The Chief Justice made it clear that the Supreme Court would not issue any finding that could affect another case involving PTI founder.

Gal Gadot speaks up on ‘Snow White’ failure

Israeli actor Gal Gadot says the pressure from Hollywood to speak out against her country was one of the main reasons why Disney’s ‘Snow White’ tanked at the Box Office.
In her new interview with an Israeli TV channel, Gal Gadot addressed the Box Office failure of her last film, Disney’s live-action reimagining of the fairytale, ‘Snow White’, blaming the anti-Israel sentiments in the industry for playing the key role.
“I was sure this movie was going to be a huge hit. And then it happened,” Gadot, who played the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action musical, said, in reference to the beginning of the Gaza war in October 2023. “And what followed, as you know, what happened a lot in various industries, including Hollywood, there’s pressure on celebrities to speak against Israel.”
“I can always explain and try to give context about what’s happening here, and I always do that. But, in the end, people make their own decisions,” she continued, adding that the actor was ‘disappointed’ with the box office failure of the title.
“That’s how it goes. You win some, you lose some,” she concluded.
Notably, the controversy-plagued ‘Snow White’, directed by Marc Webb and co-starring Gadot with Rachel Zegler, arrived in the theatres this March.

WWE may schedule John Cena’s final match

WWE is reportedly weighing the possibility of moving John Cena’s final wrestling match to directly compete with rival promotion AEW’s year-end pay-per-view, Worlds End.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the original plan was for Cena’s farewell bout to be featured during a WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in early December 2025.
However, discussions are now underway about rescheduling it to December 27 — the same date as AEW’s Worlds End.
“Originally, the final John Cena match was gonna be in early December at Saturday Night’s Main Event,” Alvarez said. “This is not confirmed, but it does look like there is now a discussion that that date will be moved so it will be head-to-head with AEW Worlds End.”

While Worlds End isn’t AEW’s flagship event like All In, it remains one of the company’s biggest annual shows.
WWE currently has no premium live event on its December schedule, leaving it unclear whether Cena’s match would headline a special PLE or air as part of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
John Cena has just 12 appearances left on his retirement tour, with his final opponent still a mystery. While CM Punk and Cody Rhodes were early fan favorites for the role, Brock Lesnar’s surprise return has added a new twist to the speculation.

Trump says plans to test out Putin in Alaska summit

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Monday described his upcoming summit with Vladimir Putin as a “feel-out meeting” to gauge his ideas for ending the war in Ukraine, as European leaders rushed to ensure respect for Kyiv’s interests.
Trump has invited his Russian counterpart to Alaska on Friday — the first face-to-face meeting between the two countries’ presidents since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 — while criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for rejecting territorial concessions.
Fearing privately that Putin will team up with Trump to force unacceptable compromises, European leaders plan to speak separately Wednesday with both Zelensky and Trump.
The US president has spent the first months of his second term in office trying to broker peace in Ukraine — after boasting he could end the conflict in 24 hours — but multiple rounds of talks, phone calls and diplomatic visits have failed to yield a breakthrough.
Trump, usually fond of boasting of his deal-making skills, played down the possibility of a breakthrough in Alaska but said he expected “constructive conversations” with Putin.
“This is really a feel-out meeting a little bit,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
“We’re going to see what he has in mind and if it’s a fair deal, I’ll reveal it to the European Union leaders and to NATO leaders and also to President Zelensky,” Trump said.
“I may say — lots of luck, keep fighting. Or I may say, we can make a deal.”
EU leaders stressed on Tuesday “the inherent right of Ukraine to choose its own destiny.”
“A just and lasting peace that brings stability and security must respect international law, including the principles of independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and that international borders must not be changed by force,” they said in a statement.
Zelensky has ruled out ceding territory. Trump — who publicly berated the Ukrainian president at a White House meeting in February — said he was a “little bothered” by Zelensky’s stance and insisted land swaps would need to take place.
“There’ll be some swapping, there’ll be some changes in land,” he said.
But Trump said he would also tell Putin that “you’ve got to end this war.”
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has invited the French, British and other European leaders and the EU and NATO chiefs to virtual talks on Wednesday.
Merz’s office said Monday the leaders would discuss “further options to exert pressure on Russia” and “preparation of possible peace negotiations and related issues of territorial claims and security.”
EU foreign ministers met in Brussels on Monday with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and also examined imposing a 19th package of sanctions on Russia since the invasion.
Until Russia agrees to a “full and unconditional ceasefire, we should not even discuss any concessions,” EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said after the talks.
“It has never worked in the past with Russia and will not work with Putin today.”
Zelensky again warned against capitulating to Putin’s demands.
“Russia refuses to stop the killings and therefore must not receive any rewards or benefits. And this is not just a moral position — it is a rational one,” Zelensky wrote in a statement published on social media.
“Concessions do not persuade a killer,” he added.

Harry’s reunion with King Charles hinges on one key change

Prince Harry, who has been vocal about his desire to reunite with the Royal Family, has been told he must alter his approach if he wants to repair relations with King Charles.
The Duke of Sussex, who stepped away from the Royal Family five years ago with Meghan Markle, has made several public appeals for reconciliation, but former royal aide Ailsa Anderson believes Prince Harry needs to take responsibility for his actions and rebuild trust.
The advice comes amid ongoing tensions between the Duke of Sussex and the Royal Family, fuelled by years of public criticism and revelations in interviews and documentaries.
Anderson cautioned that Harry’s openness about private matters, including the King’s health, has created concerns among royals about confidentiality.
While acknowledging Prince Harry’s warmth and kindness in personal interactions, Anderson maintained that trust will be key to any future with the Royal Family.
For now, Prince Harry’s path to reconciling with King Charles appears to depend on his willingness to change both his public narrative and private conduct.

Earlier, Harry was said to be deeply ‘devastated’ over what sources are calling a hostile takeover at Sentebale, the charity he co-founded with Prince Seeiso nearly 20 years ago.
Insiders close to the Duke of Sussex have described the situation as a painful crisis involving one of the most meaningful projects of his life.
Since its founding in 2006, Prince Harry’s Sentebale has supported thousands of young people in southern Africa, especially children living with HIV/AIDS and those facing mental health challenges.
The Duke of Sussex worked closely with co-founder Prince Seeiso to grow the charity’s reach and impact. The two stepped down as patrons earlier this year following internal disputes within the charity’s leadership.
The conflict grew when several trustees resigned after a disagreement with the chairwoman, Dr Sophie Chandauka.

In a long post on Friday, the ‘Price Tag’ singer noted, “I can rest, parent AND release new music. I didn’t leave a major label after 18 years to be scared to rewrite the rules to fit around my life/health. I just have to make it realistic on what I can deliver in all roles in my life.”
Jessie further asserted that she can simultaneously do it all, be it ‘another surgery’ which is needed this year, or ‘raising a toddler’, and ‘releasing new music’. “It will look different to what I had planned, but that’s life, things change, and either we panic and get mad that it isn’t what it was going to be, or we ADAPT,” she added. “I’m just flowing with life. Learning about who I am in motherhood and when my health goes left unexpectedly.”
“I am 7 weeks post-breast cancer surgery. I’m still in the thick of recovery, and my body is still finding its way. But I LOVE music and I LOVE my life and I want to LIVE in the moment. Instead of stopping, disappearing and waiting for the timing to be perfect to release music again, I am choosing to carry on,” the singer maintained.

Sindh cabinet approves CNIC-based vehicle registration system

The Sindh cabinet has approved a proposal by the Excise and Taxation Department to introduce CNIC-based vehicle registration and personalised registration marks (PRMs), ARY News reported.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House, to align the province’s system with international standards and recent reforms adopted by the federal capital.
The new system, once implemented, will fundamentally shift the registration framework by linking number plates to the owner’s Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) rather than the vehicle chassis.
According to officials, this owner-centric registration model will allow vehicle owners to retain, reuse, or surrender their personalised number plates even after selling their vehicles.
The permanent identifier of a vehicle will now be the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) based on its chassis number, while the number plate will remain linked to the owner.
The Excise Department assured that the system would enable real-time traceability, better enforcement, and facilitate asset tracking for tax purposes. It will be fully integrated with NADRA’s national database and designed to ensure standardisation across provinces.
Read more: New fines for late vehicle registration announced
“Upon the sale of a vehicle, the plate will be detached from the chassis and can be reassigned by the original owner or surrendered for reissuance or auction,” an official briefed.
The cabinet approved the model in principle, along with the necessary legal amendments to operationalize the system. However, the Chief Minister made it clear that the new system would not be implemented immediately.
Instead, he directed the Excise Department to develop and test the model first before submitting a final draft law for enactment.
The move is being hailed as a progressive step toward digitising and simplifying vehicle ownership in Sindh and curbing vehicle-related fraud
