Petition filed in IHC to shift Chairman PTI to Adiala Jail

PTI Chairman Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: PTI has filed a petition in Islamabad High Court seeking shifting of the party’s chairman from Attock Jail to Adiala, ARY News reported on Monday.

PTI chairman’s lawyer Naeem Hyder Punjotha in the petition also pleaded the court for providing ‘A’ class facilities to the former prime minister in jail.

Petitioner also requested for permission to the PTI’s legal team members for meeting with the party’s chairman in prison.

“His personal doctor, family members and senior party leaders should also be allowed to meet the PTI’s chairman,” the counsel requested to the high court.

Naeem Hyder Punjotha said that the jail superintendent telephoned him to get the petition signed from the PTI chairman at 12:00 noon. “I told him our petition to challenge the order will be delayed with your delay in the meeting”.

“Jail official said you visit at 12:00 as the PTI chief will awake at that time,” lawyer said.

“We will visit Attock Jail on 12 to meet the party’s chairman,” he added.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman was shifted to Attock jail after his arrest in Toshakhana case on Saturday.

The PTI chief was shifted to the district jail Attock amid strict security measures.

Former prime minister was arrested from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore soon after he was found guilty of “corrupt practices” in the Toshakhana case and sentenced to three years in prison.

KARACHI: As the planned dissolution of the assembly is just around the corner, the Sindh government has finalised names for caretaker chief minister and forwarded it to PPP leadership, ARY News reported on Sunday citing sources.

Sources privy to the development told ARY News that Sindh government is considering the names of Justice (r) Maqbool Baqir and Mumtaz Ali Shah for caretaker CM slot.

Judge Humayun Dilawar who sentenced PTI chief flies to London

Judge Humayun Dilawar who sentenced Imran Khan flies to London

Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ), Humayun Dilawar, who sentenced former prime minister and PTI chairman to three years in prison, has reportedly left for London, ARY News reported on Saturday.

According to details, ADSJ Humayun Dilawar, who declared PTI chairman Imran Khan guilty of “corrupt practices” in the Toshakhana case and sentenced him to three years in prison, has left for London to attend a judicial conference at the University of Hull from August 5 to 13.

It has also been revealed that judge Humayun Dilawar’s name was added to attend the judicial conference in England on August 4. Islamabad High Court (IHC) CJ had nominated a judge to join the Judicial Conference.

The high court’s registrar wrote a letter to the session judge on August 4.

The letter suggested including the name of Judge Humayun Dilawar for training in place of Judge Faizan Haider. The letter added that Judge Humayun Dilawar will join training in London from August 5-13 at the University of Hull.

Toshakhana verdict and arrest

The local court Saturday sentenced the PTI chairman to a three-year term and an Rs100,000 fine in the Toshakhana case – a move that will change the country’s political landscape as the country awaits general elections.

Announcing the short judgement, the court also disqualified him for five years from holding any office.

Soon after the verdict, Imran Khan was arrested from his Zaman Park residence Later, the PTI chief was shifted to the Central Jail Attock.

Toshakhana reference

The Toshakhana issue became a major sticking point in national politics after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified the PTI chief for making “false statements and incorrect declaration”.

The reference, which alleges that Imran failed to share details of the gifts he retained from the Toshaskhana (during his time as the prime minister) was filed by lawmakers from the ruling coalition last year.

The judgement added that the former premier was found to be indulged in corrupt practices under sections 167 and 173 of the constitution. “A criminal proceeding will be initiated against him over filing a false statement.”

On May 10, Imran had been indicted in the case, rejecting his petition to declare the Toshkhana case inadmissible. However, on July 4, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had overturned the said ruling.

On July 8, an Islamabad district and sessions court had declared the Toshakhana case against Imran to be maintainable. Subsequently, the former premier challenged the session court’s verdict in the IHC.

On August 4, the Islamabad High Court set aside a session court’s verdict that declared the Toshakhana reference against the PTI chairman as maintainable.

IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq had ordered the lower court to rehear the case. The court also rejected the PTI chairman Imran Khan’s appeal to transfer the case to another court and issued a notice for next week on the appeal to restore the right of defence.

rabia butt emotional

Supermodel turned actor, Rabia Butt got emotional in an interview recalling her mother’s death.

Watch ARY News live on live.arynews.tv

In an earlier interview with a digital channel, Rabia Butt couldn’t control her emotions and got misty-eyed, remembering her late mother, who passed away when she was 18 while her youngest of the three sisters was 8.

She shared that she has three younger sisters who are more like her own daughters and also treat her like a mother, as she had brought them up after her mother’s death at a young age. “They even wish me for Mother’s Day,” Butt told the host.

“It was hard to take up that responsibility at that time when I was so young myself. To establish a career at that time and then this added responsibility, it was tough but now it’s not, as they have all grown up,” added the ‘Pehli Si Muhabbat’ actor on her motherly role.

“It was not a conscious decision but something which I had to, as the role was handed over to me and I had to look after them. However, I firmly believe that it is not me, but Allah who has done everything and had my back, I’m just a source,” she reflected.

The actor confessed that she would often complain to Allah for taking her mother away, but as time passed, she has come to a point to make peace with the fact that it is how it works.

It is pertinent to mention that the actor got one of her sisters married earlier this year.
